OOH Locum GP (Clinical Advice) – Bristol

Enjoy clinical problem-solving and prefer a calm, well-run base to a busy waiting room? Danny is recruiting Out-of-Hours GPs to support a Bristol clinical advice service, assessing patients passed on from NHS 111.

Key Details:
– Location: Bristol
– Role: OOH GP
– Rate: £90 per hour
– Availability: 3–5 days available, with the option to discuss ongoing work
– Working pattern: Evening, weekend and bank holiday shifts from a central Bristol base
– Patient workload: Mainly telephone and video consultations, with face-to-face appointments arranged where needed
– Clinical system: SystmOne
– Start date: Shifts available now

Key Responsibilities:
– Calling back patients referred by NHS 111 and assessing their needs remotely
– Deciding on the safest outcome, whether that’s self-care advice, a prescription, a face-to-face appointment or onward referral
– Issuing electronic prescriptions and writing clear notes for the patient’s own GP
– Supporting clinical navigators and other clinicians on shift with queries

About the Opportunity:
Remote assessment is a skill in its own right, and this service gives you the structure to do it well. Calls arrive through a clear priority queue, a senior clinician leads every shift, and there’s a straightforward escalation route whenever you want a second opinion. With most of your work done remotely, there’s no driving between home visits and no queue building up in a waiting room. Shifts can be booked a few weeks ahead, making it easy to fit OOH work around other commitments. It’s ideal for GPs who want to add urgent care to their portfolio or build confidence in telephone triage.

Requirements:
– Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
– Inclusion on the NHS England Medical Performers List
– Right to work in the UK
– Appropriate medical indemnity cover
– Relevant GP/primary care experience
– Up-to-date compliance
